Hey, everybody!

In this article, we wanted to share with you the experiences of two music professionals: Manu and Quentin.

They have different backgrounds and ages and therefore a different vision of the impact of social networks on the musical universe.

Manu levy, a radio presenter and Quentin Davenas who works for a music label answered our questions in order to learn more about their opinions as professionals.

The impact of social networks is real, but Manu and Quentin have a different vision of it.

Indeed, for Manu "social networks are not "audience recruiters"". The radio survives perfectly on its own and social networks do not affect the success of the radio. Radio must adapt, offer varied and original content to continue to build audience loyalty.

For Manu, social networks are a way for artists to gain notoriety, to offer content and it's a way to discover new talent. However, the offer on social networks is becoming more and more important and according to him, few artists manage to stand out from the crowd.

Networks like Spotify or Deezer are beneficial and facilitate access to music. For Manu, it's “a new playground for promotion" and artists need these networks to make themselves known.

As far as radio is concerned, she also uses networks for advertising, but radio and social networks are not competing. These are two different tools that work very well for broadcasting music.

Quentin on his side works permanently with social networks such as Tiktok, Instagram or Youtube: he does digital communication.

The networks are very present in his environment and according to him the artists are spotted and put in contact with producers thanks to the social networks. Instagram has become a kind of linkedin for talent recruiters.

Social networks have their specificities. Facebook is a very influential network for artists because it is connected to the Internet and is one of the oldest social networks with a large audience. Instagram is used by rappers. Tic Tok becomes more and more influential to reach the younger generation.

We must not forget that there is a risk with the use of social networks. Some artists go too far in their posts. Indeed, artists can post things that are not acceptable but will be seen by all their fans on snapchat for example. This damages their image and affect their notoriety.

With the emergence of all these different networks we have moved into digital consumption of music. The market for physical CD has fallen but according to Quentin some artists (the older ones) are still selling CDs. Like Quentin said, it depends on the project, so we can say that CD sales are not dead even with the appearance of the networks.

But today in order to be successful the artist must have a digital team that follows him in order to optimize hi titles on the different platforms.

Thanks to these two interviews, we see that social networks are essential to identify the talents and artists of tomorrow. Today have a digital consumption of music but networks are not overshadowing the radio.

Hope you enjoy this last article, don’t forget to watch the two interview !!
